Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father, a carnival barker, passed away as a young little girl. This forced her mother to help support the family by being a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth attended school, and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts' tenement districts. But she quit school after just two years in order to take on a acting career. It was not without challenges. After obtaining a position as a model in New York as a model for a detective magazine, she found it difficult to get jobs in the stage. She then worked as the hat checker in the nightclub before calling her quits and relocating to Boston. There, she made the ends meet by working as an usherette in the morning, while working at night with the New England Repertory Company, her first steady acting job. In addition, she was a drama student and ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
